DOCUSIGN, THE LEADER OF WEB-BASED SIGNATURES

Abstract
DocuSign filled a missing gap needed in this digital age to help both small and large
businesses and organizations go in a more paperless direction with the use of digital eSignature
technology. As its market share grows, DocuSign is constantly evolving and keeping up with
current trends in the market to maintain it’s reign as one of the top businesses in the world that
offer this service as the world moves towards a more paperless business model. Not only is
DocuShare and businesses that offer similar services taking this technology to the next level, but
it also helps the environment by giving businesses a new and faster paperless option. The less
paper we use, the less it is produced allowing our rainforests and natural environment to last a lot
longer, truly making this world, a better place for not only us; but for our planet and it’s future as
well.
DOCUSIGN, THE LEADER OF WEB-BASED SIGNATURES

DocuSign, The Leader of Web-Based Signatures
DocuSign offers companies and organizations to manage electronic agreements. They do
this by offering e-signatures, where a document can be signed by someone on a mobile device or
computer electronically as opposed to signing an actual paper document, which is something I
feel was needed in our current digital age. DocuSign has its headquarters in San Francisco,
California, with over 1 million customers and millions of users across the globe in more than 180
countries.
The company was founded in 2003 by 3 people: Court Lorenzini, Tom Gosner and
Eric Ranft. The idea to start a company that captures digital signatures was had by Tom when he
was with NetUpdate. With the help of Court Lorenzini, Tom was able to purchase a start-up asset
from NetUpdate called DocuTouch, which held patents on web-based digital signatures. Two top
competitors are Acrobat Sign and SignNow, which are fairly close in with the services they offer
and all-around favorability. Aside from small functionality differences, all 3 companies rank very
high and are the top choices amongst users of this type of service.
DocuSign Revenue and Statistics
DocuSign charges monthly fees, depending on the type of subscription you purchase. The
different types of subscriptions are: Personal (Covers individual needs), Standard (Covers a
team’s needs), and Business Pro (Covers an advanced team’s needs). The personal plan is for
only one user, and costs $10/month, or $120/year. The Standard plan covers up to five users at
$25/month/user or starts at $300/year. The Business Pro plan covers five or more users, and the
pricing starts at $40/month/user, or starts at $480/year.
1
Sources of Income: monthly
subscriptions, yearly subscriptions, and other professional services. (Figure 1).
The competition structure of DocuSign is Pure Competitive. There are many similar
competitors offering similar products and services as DocuSign, therefore, making it a

competitive market. The factors that affect demand are simply because of our culture quickly
moving everything towards the digital market. It is why the market of eSignature companies
have vastly grown over the last several years. Industries such as real estate, healthcare, and
financials are all not just wanting to, but needing to go paperless, in order to create hassle free
documentation.
2
If the consumer’s income were to change, the demand for the product wouldn’t
change much. With DocuSign’s reasonable pricing, most individuals would be able to still afford
it. You would either pay $10 for paper documentation, or $10 for a monthly subscription. It is
also easier to keep up with. The idea behind DocuSign is genius, really. It benefits both the
company and the consumer. The price of the related company, HelloSign, is more expensive. Its
individual plan is $15/month, and its Standard plan starts at $600/month. Their standard plan is
double that of DocuSigns’. If HelloSign were to decrease their prices, It is unlikely that it would
affect the demand of DocuSign. Its reputation holds the market in eSignatures. (Table 1 and 2).
Paragraph 2 heading.
DocuSign helps organizations connect and automate how they
prepare, sign, act on, and manage agreements. As part of the DocuSign Agreement Cloud,
DocuSign offers eSignature, the world's #1 way to sign electronically on practically any device,
from almost anywhere, at any time. Today, over a million customers and more than a billion
users in over 180 countries use the DocuSign Agreement Cloud to accelerate the process of
doing business and simplify people's lives.
The platform has 350+ prebuilt integrations with
popular business apps. In addition, our API enables embedding and connecting DocuSign with
customers’ websites, mobile apps, and custom workflows. Today, more than 1,000,000 customers
and hundreds of millions of users in over 180 countries use DocuSign to accelerate the process of
doing business and to simplify people's lives.

Suppose Ginny gives haircuts on Saturdays to make extra money. She is the only person in town cutting hair on Saturdays and therefore has some
market power. Assume that she does not incur fixed costs, and the only significant variable cost to Ginny is her time. As she gives more haircuts,
Ginny must increasingly forgo other valuable Saturday activities. For example, if she gives one haircut, she forgoes reading the paper after breakfast.
If she gives two haircuts, she gives up reading the paper and sleeping an extra half-hour.
Ginny's clients are a varied group willing to pay between $16.00 and $28.00 for a haircut. Assume that Ginny cannot price discriminate, i.e., charge
different clients different prices. If Ginny charges $28.00 per haircut, she will have one client per week; if…

Scooter's Scooters is a large American manufacturer of electric scooters operating out of Fort Collins. Currently, the company produces all of its
scooters using a single manufacturing facility, its factory in town. Recently, management has been considering expanding operations to one or two

Homework Perfect Competition
1. There must be many buyers and sellers-a few players can't dominate the market.
2. Firms must produce an identical product-buyers must regard all sellers' products as equivalent.
3. Firms and resources must be fully mobile, allowing free entry into and exit from the industry.
The first two conditions imply that all consumers and firms are price takers. While the third is not necessary for price-taking behavior, assume for this
problem that a market cannot maintain competition in the long run without free entry.
Identify whether or not each of the following scenarios describes a competitive market, along with the correct explanation of why or why not.
Scenario
Is the market competitive?
