Physical Layer The Physical Layer serves as the foundational building block of the OSI model, responsible for the actual physical connection between devices. This layer deals with the transmission and reception of raw binary data, which is typically represented as electrical signals, light pulses, or radio waves. The layer's primary focus is on establishing a reliable and efficient interface with the transmission medium, whether it's copper wires, fiber- optic cables, or wireless signals. Hardware components such as cables, switches, and NICs (Network Interface Cards) operate at this layer, adhering to technical specifications like voltage levels, pin assignments, and cable specifications. The Physical Layer ensures that when you send a "1" from one end of the network, a "1" is received on the other end, but it does not concern itself with how that "1" is interpreted or what it represents.
