Manitoba Hydro, Climate change report, 2020
Introduction:
The climate change report by Manitoba hydro for the year 2020 signifies the importance
to reduce carbon emotions and greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning over to renewable
energy sources. Manitoba Hydro is a corporation of the province of Manitoba and one of the
largest electricity and natural gas providers in Canada. This 2020 climate report contains an
extensive overview of projected climate change and its potential effects on Manitoba's weather.
This report further demonstrates the need for sustainable energy production in Manitoba, which
will reduce emissions from within the province, while maintaining the Paris agreement to reduce
overall emissions from the country.
Thesis statement:
Manitoba hydro is fighting climate change with help of sustainable energy practices that
will further decrease the dependence on fossil fuels and other non-renewable energy sources,
overall which will have less impact on the environment, through various methods such being
improving power grids, utilizing hydroelectricity, replacing older equipment which further
decreases the chances of harm to the wildlife and ecosystem in a given area. While mitigating
risks to the vulnerable equipment.
Anticipated criticism:
Renewable energy is an effective way of transitioning away from fossil fuels, Although
the idea of reducing the carbon footprint of the province is a goal most would look forward to,

unfortunately as this technology is unfeasible for large-scale implementation due to its high
infrastructure cost and high costs for research and development to further improve upon the
power generated.
Other groups of people are concerned about the possible effects on the
environment as all of those clean energy ideas are in the early stage of research and development.
For example, creating a dam creates a disturbance to water flow which can result in dead rivers
and affect us vastly with all lives related to the river, in addition, possible faulty equipment can
cause disturbance and disrupt wildlife and the ecosystem of a given area, utilizing wind power
such as turbines can cause disturbance in wildlife and it's positing highly dependent on a
particular region with strong wind rendering it completely useless in other areas with low wind
streams. Solar energy has its fair share of disadvantages as large-scale implementation requires a
particular location with abundant sunlight, and creating and dismantling solar panels is an
environmental hazard in itself as it requires dangerous materials to construct.
Action Plan:
Canada signed the Paris agreement alongside other 197 countries, where
Canada committed to reduce carbon emissions by at least 30% by 2030 and
achieve zero emissions by 2050. Manitoba Hydro is trying to make a way that
will make it easier to fulfill the commitment as an important part of society.
Manitoba has a green plan that it has already begun to implement this
plan states that this province has to be the greenest and most climate-friendly
province, this plan includes various methods to reduce your emissions
significantly and move away from fossil fuels in favor of biofuels and renewable
energy including but not limited to Wind power, solar power and water power

There are only 2 nodes in the 35 kV line – node 0 from the 110/35 kV and node 1 with one consumer. The physical characteristics of the line and the loading scenarios are individualized for each student – please see the attached file Excel “WM9P3 Task1 data” for your particular data set.

1. Electrical explosions directly into the face of a person working on or near energizedelectrical equipment can and will cause serious injury or death. OSHA laws and NFPA70E have strict safety requirements for working on electrical equipment. The basicrules are to turn off the power before working on the equipment and to wear the propertype of nonflammable clothing. To further provide safety for the worker, the NationalElectrical Code has a requirement pertaining to arc-flash hazard warning. This requirement is found in of the NEC.
