Name: Flanker Lab Directions: 1. Navigate to the following website and read the background and instructions: https://www.psytoolkit.org/experiment-library/flanker.html 2. Click the “Click here to run a demo” link to begin the experiment. Pay careful attention to the instructions that follow. 3. Following the last trial, the program will present you your reaction time data . DO NOT HIT THE SPACEBAR. Take a screenshot of that summary (numbers in the black square window) and paste it here. 4. Answer the questions below! Copy Data Below: Questions 1. Look at your individual data. Were you faster on congruent trials or incongruent trials? Does this surprise you? Why or why not? 2. Would your results better support an early filter model of attention, or a late filter model of attention? (This answer may depend on your specific results!) Explain your answer.
3. Imagine that in this demonstration the distracting letters were not a part of the target letters (X,C,B,V). For example, rather than having “CCVCC”, the flanker might be something like “HHVHH”. Do you think this would affect your reaction time? Why or why not? 4. Describe a real-world visual task that is similar to the incongruent condition of this experiment, in which distracting visual information may slow your ability to process visual information important to you. Then, describe a real-world visual example like the congruent condition, where the dirstacting information resupports the visual task you are trying to complete.
