Lab 3: Grid connected PV system design and analysis using Helioscope Objective Performing a pre-feasibility study for a Photovoltaic system using Helioscope, evaluating PV system monthly generation, performance ratio, conducting mechanical and electrical BOS and performing shading analysis Apparatus Helioscope simulation software Required Preparation Review the solar PV systems sizing methods, mechanical and electrical BOS. Create a hypothesis on potential loss mechanisms in a PV array. Is there any relation between any two of those loss mechanism? Your Answer: Potential losses in a PV system are caused by shading losses and losses from choosing the wrong wire size, which could lead to heat losses or voltage drop problems. Additionally, choosing the right distance between the panels and the floor can aid in minimising any potential heat loss beneath the panel. The DC/AC ratio of 1.25 is ideal for PV systems, and inverter selection is another crucial aspect of PV design. Procedures Task 1: System Design in Helioscope Step 1: Site Selection Sign in to your Helioscope account and create a new project. Set the project location to be Conestoga college renewable complex at the back of ATS building as shown in figure below. Photovoltaic Grid Design and Installation Lab Manual Page 2 of 10
Step 2: Design a 6KW (AC) ground-mount solar PV system with optimized fixed tilt angle for minimum yearly loss at the above-mentioned site. You should select proper PV panel and inverter (Module and inverter brand and nominal power is optional). Photovoltaic Grid Design and Installation Lab Manual Page 3 of 10
