Report
First CogLab task: Signal Lab 1. What do researchers want to demonstrate by using this task? The researcher wants to explore a property of the visual system, so he/she presents a visual stimulus and asks the participants to report whether they saw the target 2) Describe what a trial looks like in this task in your own words (don’t copy CogLab!!!). Each trial has a certain amount of dots and some have the stimulus and some do not. The participant has to determine whether or not it is present. 3) What are the independent variable(s) and dependent variable(s) (use the same language as CogLab)? IV: ___Number of Dots with stimulus_____ DV:___Whether or not it is seen_____ 4) What are the conditions (levels) associated with each independent variable (use the same language as CogLab)? Number of dots on each trial. There is stimulus present and stimulus absent there are 4 which are a hit a miss a false alarm and a correction rejection 5) What is(are) the hypothesi(e)s (when mentioning the conditions, use language consistent with CogLab)? They hypothesize that the intensity of the stimuli and the psychological and physical state of the person contribute to whether or not the person is able to detect the stimuli .
6) What’s another possible experimental design that could be made to study the concept behind this lab? Using this same design but changing the colors to see if people respond better/quicker to different colors 7) What are some possible real-life implications of understanding the concept behind this lab? This can go hand in hand with every day life such as driving or paying attention in school or presence of loud music and whether or not you can hear the phone ringing 8) Examine your individual data and the global data. Do they match the predictions mentioned in the debriefing? Individual data: Yes Global data: No Second CogLab task: ____Simon Effect____
