Clinical Field Experience B: Lesson Plan Review
During my time in the classroom with my mentor teacher, I have been observing many strategies and instructions for Language Arts. My mentor teacher uses many tools such as the smartboard, worksheets, and reading. My mentor teacher also models what she expects from the students. When I gave my mentor teacher my “Book Walk” lesson plan she told me that I did a very good job in writing down what should be accomplished during the lesson and the activities were very good and age-appropriate for the grade level chosen. My mentor teacher Mrs. Parent told me to not over complicate things by focusing so much on the activities, but I should focus on instructions and modeling. The grade level that I have chosen, which was the 1
st
grade indicates I may be thinking too small and not challenging myself to teach a higher grade. My mentor teacher also stated that my State Standards mention specific keywords that I should keep in mind and should be included in the lesson plan itself such as “key detail” and “use illustrations”. My mentor teacher included reading, writing, speaking, and listening in her lesson plan for the day. During her time of instruction, she read a story on the smartboard and pointed out verbs and nouns. She read and modeled by circling and underlining nouns and verbs. She also allowed the students to continue working in their workbooks the rest of the story and to do the same as she did.
