4-6 Assignment: Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing ENG-122-Q5951 English Composition Assignment Due Date 05/28/2023 11:59PM 4-6 Assignment: Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing
My Summary of “Rethinking Work” The article I have chosen from our selection of options is “Rethinking Work” by Barry Schwartz. In the article, Schwartz starts off by informing us on the high rate of employees that are dissatisfied with their employment situation based upon the results of a gallop poll recently conducted. Barry Schwartz is making the claim that most people are dissatisfied with their employment due to a lack of meaning in the work that is being done and the limits of being challenged in a positive way at work. He states that the popular management style and the philosophy it is being influenced by is demotivating employees. That contributes to what is causing employees to also feel dissatisfied with their jobs as a result. At a rate as high as affecting every nine out of ten employees. It is his argument that this is happening due to the job functions being watered down, structured to be smaller to increase production and functioning as an assembly line. In doing so, the positions become overly simplistic and mindless. He argues that human beings would be more productive, have an increased satisfaction in their work and even be willing to bring home less money if they were working in a position in which they felt had involved doing work that mattered, made personal connections to, and work environments involved being treated with a mutual respect by superiors while allowing and had allowed them some room to make their own decisions at work and the way in which they complete their work.
