Rea Bace Professor Dr. Håkon Kalkvik EVR1001 November, 19, 2023 What resource(s) (e.g., surface water, groundwater, soil, etc.) is/are potentially being negatively impacted? The resource that is being negatively impacted in this image is surface water. Do you believe the pollution is from a point or non-point source, and how would you determine this? I believe this is a non-point pollution source because it’s hard to identify the direct cause of it due to many pollutants that can be the cause e.g. rural homes, factories, farms etc. What pollutants do you suspect are involved and what are the negative impacts to the environment? I suspect the pollutants that are negatively impacting the environment in this picture are wastewater, and agricultural pollutants. They disturb the body of water potentially causing erosion, loss of aquatic life and damage to water quality. What pollution process might be occurring?
The pollution process that is occurring in this picture could be accidental or deliberate spills of harmful substances, from improperly treated wastewater that comes from rural homes, farms or factories. How can this pollution be abated? Prevented? This pollution can be abated by minimizing the use of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers in farms and factories and properly treating waste water in a way that is not so damaging to the environment. What resource(s) (e.g., surface water, groundwater, soil, etc.) is/are potentially being negatively impacted? The resource that is being negatively impacted in this image is groundwater. Do you believe the pollution is from a point or non-point source, and how would you determine this? I believe this pollution is a point pollution because it is a single identifiable source of pollution from. What pollutants do you suspect are involved and what are the negative impacts to the environment?
