2 TikTok: An Aversion to Reality The Matrix , a film franchise release that arguably set the tone for the impending doom humanity faces if we continue to turn a blind eye to individual responsibility and choices that lie ahead if we continue down a path reliant on the machine, more specifically artificial intelligent. As stated by the infamous Morpheus, “Remember, all I’m offering is the truth, nothing more”, this can easily translate to the ultimate cautionary tale about social media application, TikTok ( Wachowski, L., & Wachowski, L.   (1999)) . TikTok, a social media application, that has well over 3.5 billion download that uses artificial intelligence as a unique algorithm to suggest content for users as well as encourages users to use the application for all needs. On the application you can shop, find information regarding geographical location, learn all kinds of life-skill hacks, content from movies and tv shows, and information you could find teaching in schools, therefore making TikTok a one-stop-shop for all your needs. Of course, enticing as it sounds, TikTok is slowing becoming an application where young audience members are co-dependent on, which in turn can have major effects on developing minds and their health. With such high download numbers, social media platforms such as TikTok has only just begun its reign among the aversion to reality, and how it affects the health of young children and adolescence. TikTok an application used by many, has created an application that has around 50 million daily active users per day that are able to view content from all around the word suggested to them by the use of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence in easy terms is a machine’s ability to achieve functions similar to a human, more specifically learning, interacting, problem solving, creativity, and so forth (McKinsey, 2023). How artificial intelligence is able to learn is through data algorithms, following patterns and predictions based on previous experiences and recommendations rather than a simple program set up that is designed to do

The For You Page, the suggested content option for its users is uniquely formed around each user in relation to the retention and time spend on the application, forming it suggestions by learning the individuals’ preferences. From the suggested content, depending on the age restrictions and guidelines will more time than not come across videos where filters have become a standardized for users to use when either posting and or viewing content from other accounts they follow and or are suggested to them. Originally, TikTok began developing its popularity once similar apps such as Vine and Musical.ly had been removed off of any and all application download websites, where young people could express themselves with imitating one another through lip-syncing, and viral dance trends. Since the early developments of the application, all sorts of filters and physical appearance enhancers were suggested for users to use, in order for users to gain a sense of presence with the public (Liu, 2021). From recent studies conducted off of the social media application, this platform is swarming with unrealistic body types, and stereotype certain beauty ideals for both genders. It was also found that at times, some content creators openly spoke about how overweight they felt, even at times where objectively the content creator seemed healthy and slim, only just increased social comparison among young audience members (Lui,2021). So much fear of being judged online has thus created a the very popular hashtag #dontjudgemechallange where content creators use post videos on truly showing their physical features without any applied filters in order to showcase audience members their natural selves only to ironically use the same video to apply make-up and or through the use of the filters available on TikTok showcase how to alter their appearance for TikTok content (Lui,2021). From these challenges and hashtags along, especially to young minds it can be hard to separate what is
