Overview
: The ability to hear, comprehend, and notate music is one of the ultimate goals of this course. Many argue that years of preparation are needed to achieve this goal. Others, however, have argued that skill can be developed quickly. Regardless of the correctness of either view, a consistent theme in their thinking is that of practice. Through practice, people can build the needed skills to notate music simply by hearing it. The dictation worksheets, submitted weekly, will help you apply learned concepts by providing an opportunity for detailed practice. Instructions:
Utilizing the provided recordings and links to Spotify, you will work to notate the musical elements on the assigned worksheets. Do not use any additional resources (piano, guitar, the internet, etc…) to assist you as the notate what you hear.
