ENG 1112: Technical Report Writing Diagnostic test This document contains the instructions for your diagnostic test. You will complete the test on Brightspace (your DGD Brightspace, not the Lecture Brightspace) in the Quizzes section (part 1) and Assignments (part 2). Please see instructions below for how to complete the test.
Deadline: Monday, January 15, 11:59 pm
The test itself would likely take no more than 80 minutes to complete, but you will likely need to take more time to read the documents in the basic-course-documents folder (the multiple-choice questions are based on these documents). Questions?
If you have questions, you may contact Gefen Bar-On Santor:
Email: gbatonsa@uottawa.ca
Mobile phone and text: 613-295-6372
The test provides a rough and preliminary assessment of your writing and of your understanding of the requirements of the course. The grade does not count toward your final grade in the course, nor does it predict your final grade. The grades and answer key for Part 1 (multiple-choice) will be published after January 15 (you may see your grade for Part 1 immediately upon submission, but I will post the answer key after January 15). Your DGD leader will grade Part 2 within 3 weeks. Both grades will appear in the Grades spreadsheet of your DGD Brightspace but will have zero weight.
Part 1
For Part 1 of the diagnostic test, please read the following documents in the basic-course-documents folder of the Lecture Brightspace and answer the 10 multiple-choice questions that follow in the Quizzes section of your DGD Brightspace (the questions are provided here just for your reference; please answer under Quizzes). Please also see below (following the multiple-choice questions) Part 2 of the Test, which should be submitted under “Assignments” in the DGD Brightspace.
Documents in the basic-course-documents folder of the Lecture Brightspace to read for Part 1 of the diagnostic test (the multiple-choice questions are about these documents)

Part 2
Choose one of the following five questions and write a one-page double-spaced response to it (the length of the response may vary). Write your answer in a Word or PDF document and upload it in the Assignments space on Brightspace under Diagnostic Test, Part 2 (your DGD Brightspace page, not the Lecture Brightspace page). Please do not use the Pages format, as Brightspace cannot open that format (use Word or PDF instead). You are
NOT required to use sources, but if you do, please provide citations and quotations in APA or MLA style.
(1) Read the report instructions in the basic-course-documents folder in the Lecture Brightspace. Explain which topic you intend to choose and why this topic interests you (you may change your mind later; the diagnostic test does not commit you to a topic).
(2) Read the instructions for the brief informal contribution in the basic-course-documents folder in the Lecture Brightspace. Write a plan for what your brief informal contribution might be, or write a draft for the brief informal contribution.
