Restriction on the Exams
Because this is an online class, students will take the midterm and final exam on different dates and at various locations. Therefore, it is imperative that you do not talk about or reveal the nature
and contents of the exams that you have taken to anyone else, in any media, in any social-media forum or group, or in any form, until a week after the quarter is over. In addition, if you inadvertently gain knowledge of the contents of the exam before taking them by a revelation of another person, you are required to report the incident to me along with the extent of your knowledge. Violators will automatically be reported to the appropriate UCLA office for investigation and disciplinary action with regards to the violation of the academic Honor Code.
Note to Students:
1.
Test is to be taken using Bruinlearn. There are two parts. Part 1 is objective questions. Part 2 is short essay questions. You will be given a fixed time to do the Part 1. No time limit for the Part 2
2.
Test is open book and notes.
3.
Answer the essay test in Bruinlearn. For drawing diagrams, figures, or any graphics, you may use paper to do that. You can scan or take a photo and send as attachment to us. Please put your name on each sheet of paper and clearly indicate which question the sheet is associated. Please use dark pen or #2 pencil so there is adequate contrast for readability.
4.
It is important that your answers are focused on the essay questions asked. Long answers do not translate into better grades. Points will be taken off for irrelevant or false statements in your answers.
5. If unclear about a problem statement, make reasonable assumptions and
proceed. Clearly state the assumption(s) that you are making.
Part 1.

In September 2022, southwestern Florida was struck by the full force of a category-4 hurricane. Due to wind, rain, and a storm surge, many houses, buildings, and infrastructure were damaged or destroyed. Because of this, it was difficult for first responders to coordinate with one another to start the recovery process. Among the first responders were repair persons from electrical and utilities companies, communications providers (both wired and wireless), and water and sewer service providers. There were also people from the local, state, and federal governments, insurance companies, banking system, and transportation system to start the minimum essential services. After first responders arrive at a wide area of damage, it is crucial for them to set up a means of communication so as to coordinate their services. There is a need for the distribution of information so that first responders can prioritize their tasks. In addition, part of the coordination involves providing a means to let the general population know where to seek specific types of services. The questions below are related to the building of this information system.
