Discussion Thread: Systems from a Biblical Perspective Sylvia Sessoms Liberty University EDUC 631 Professor Morse 10/26/2023 Many education leaders would agree that technological innovation continues to drive new ideas within educational systems (Moore & Diehl, 2018). Educational systems are responding to workforce needs to prepare their students to be successful for the future (Moore & Diehl, 2018). Rogers (2003) discusses that not everyone will immediately buy into innovative ideas. For this discussion, you must provide two key points and two challenges to consider when helping a system bridge the gap with technology initiatives. You will also need to discuss why you believe helping people bridge the gap is important from a Biblical perspective. The use of technology has been a gradual process. In which the earliest form of educational technology can be traced back to the use of wooden paddles with printed lessons. Which was then followed by the magic lantern. This device was a primitive version of a slide projector. The 20 th century introduced more advanced educational tools such as educational films and personal computers. In recent years, the use of computers and technology has become more widespread and is now an integral part of modern-day education. The use of technology in education has many benefits. Educational technology can foster collaboration and communication between teachers and students. As well as help teachers improve their lesson plans and facilitate personalized learning. With personalized learning opportunities, students can learn at their own pace. Which is particularly helpful for students who may need extra time to understand a concept. Educational technology also provides engaging tools and lessons. Tools such as virtual classrooms can not only make classes livelier but also
create more inclusive learning environments. Educational technology also reduces the need for textbooks and other traditional teaching materials, which can be cost-effective long term. While there are many benefits of technology in education, there are some disadvantages as well. There are many concerns about student privacy and data security. Also, there have been reports of technical difficulties such as software glitches and hardware malfunctions. Many believe that the use of technology reduces the amount of face-to-face interactions, which is an important part of learning. Furthermore, not all students have equal access to technology, which creates more disparity among the students. Additionally, the implementation and maintenance of technology can be costly. Which can be a challenge for schools with limited budgets. It's important to take these disadvantages into consideration when implementing educational technology to ensure that it is used effectively and responsibly. In Proverbs, education is seen as something important in order to understand the will of God and to follow continuously. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he will not depart from it.” This verse emphasizes the importance of instilling good values and habits in children. By providing children with positive roles and teaching them how to make good choices, parents and educators can help them grow. By implementing technology effectively and bridging the gap, teachers help in this process.
