The author is trying to explain that explanatory synthesis two or more source summarize and critique. Ideas into own words reason The differences but similarities of the two articles can be explained as Explanatory synthesis is not about arguing or debating a subject; instead, it presents a clear and undeniable fact necessary for readers to understand whereas Argument Synthesis has a well-rooted thesis that expresses the writer’s thoughts. The first article was built around an argument synthesis where the author wants the readers to support the thesis of the controversy by trying to persuade readers into believing that the facts in the first article are true (Behrens & Rosen, 2018). On the other hand, the second article falls along the lines of explanatory synthesis where it discusses the events that played out in the case with no influence from other outside sources The point of an explanatory synthesis is to present the facts in a reasonable manner. An Argument Synthesis draws on evidence from a variety of sources in an attempt to persuade others of truth or validity of a debatable clai The two articles from this week regarding Tom Brady and the well-known “deflate-gate” discussed the details of the scandal as well of the unsuccessful negotiations between the two parties. The authors purpose is to summarize this scandal using tools known as the explanatory and argumentative synthesis. As you are aware explanatory synthesis uses objective writing however argumentative synthesis is more persuasive. Both articles enlighten the reader on the specific details of the scandal. How Roger Goodell and the NFL’s accusations were that Tom Brady knowingly conspired with two ball handlers in preparation for Superbowl 49 vs the Indianapolis Colts which ended in a 45-7 victory for the New England Patriots. The authors gave an overview of the scandal itself while also explaining the legality of the situation. They also explain that the Judge handling this case, US District Judge Richard Berman, recommended to the parties to settle negotiations as he later mentioned to the NFL he believed that their evidence was lacking and their accusations were vague. The second article was more explanatory. The facts did not share the page with additional details, like the courtroom artist who went viral on social media after portraying Tom Brady as a villain-like character. I believe the first article went more into detail and used theories such as the one above to draw emotion from the reader which is an example of how an author utilizes argument synthesis, attempting to persuade the reader one way or another regarding a debatable claim. (Behrens & Rosen, 2018, p. 121) The articles we reviewed this week were related to the Deflate-gate scandal from a few years back, and each approached the topic differently. In the first article, it was written to draw emotion and forge an opinion in the reader. There were many quotations and added information that was not relevant to the matter that they were trying to convey. The path the author was taking, or intention, was not clear. The general idea for both articles was that the Deflate-gate scandal was in settlement talks, and they were not
successful in reaching an agreement to settle the issue during that meeting. The second article was more ‘to the point’ of the matter, giving straightforward information to the reader regarding the status of the Deflate-gate scandal settlement talks. Although in both articles the authors had successfully explained the general idea that these were, ‘last minute settlement talks’, only the second article sounds as though it was written for that of a credible news platform.
