Amanda Do Professor Boswell English Composition 1 20th November 2022 “Stamped Assignment” Both passages both have quite a similar topic. They both cover the topic of the history of racism, racism in general, and antiracism. These topics are quite controversial in society today especially because of the past events that occurred recently. The past events that occurred during the year 2020 to 2022 are very tragic and are still ongoing. We still are facing these issues of equality even though our country is so diverse and full of people with different colors and cultural backgrounds. Even though we have come very far and have grown from what racism was like in the past we are still facing it to this day. In both passages, they both talk about the history of how slavery led to the start of racism. They both talked about the same person who documented and kept a journal on the life of slavery. The man who they both talked about was named Gomes Eanes de Zurara. Zurara was the man who documented and was formally commissioned to write a biography on the life of slaves. Both passages talked about him but they each had their own opinion of the man. The original “Stamped” talks about Zurara as the man who was commissioned by prince henry’s nephew to document and write a biography about slaves. On the other hand, the remix of “Stamped” called Zurara the cheerleader of supporting slavery. I would say that the original version of “Stamped” was more factual and more informative while “Stamped” The remix is more modern and opinionated. Even though both passages share the same information they both did not have the same opinions The original “Stamped” was published in 2016. From what was read it seems like the book was about the history of slavery and how it developed into racisim then spreaded to the US. Soon after “Stamped” the remix was released in 2020. The year of 2020 was the year when the US erupted into chaos and violence. The year of 2020 was the year that George Floyed was murdered by police, he died while being restrained and suffucated to death. Soon after the death of George Floyed riots began to erupt
becuase there was not justice for the wrong doings of the police. I feel that “Stamped” the remix was written to remind us all that these acts of racism aren’t new but just somthing that is recurring in modern day society. I think that the remix provided more awareness and bring light to the situation. I think that we lost a lot of hope because instead of moving towards the future we are repeating mistakes from the past. “Stamped” the remix was created to empower, inform, and inspire young adults of this generation. I think that the Remix was ment to target and infor younger audience. The tone and the way the passage is written allows the younger generations to understand and comprehend the history and information. In conclusion, these passages are overall very informative and and tell a story. They tell the story of how slavery ties in with racism. They help bring awarness to what is happening in the world right now and how it is affecting us. Racism is everywhere and we should know our information and gain more knowledge on this topic so that we can find a solution. Maybe in the near future there will finally be equality and no more discrimination.
