Vanessa Hernandez Professor Sally Henzel English 101 14 October 2023 Sources and Evaluation The Washington Post's review of Taylor Swift's “The Eras Tour” admires Swift's stage presence and performance, while also criticizing her demographic of fans and setlist. In the article, the reviewer also comments on Swift's interaction with the audience and how it contributes to the overall experience of the show. Overall, I disagree with the review's assessment of Swift's demographic of fans and setlist. Per The Washington Post fans can be described as: “Grade-school-aged girls primed to shriek, rush the screen, take selfies, and make heart hands through this delirious, dizzying celebration of Swift -mania.” (Hornaday). People of all ages, including adults, look up to Swift as she is undoubtedly a talented performer. With that being said, I also disagree with the review of her stage presence. Her dancing can be described as “Limited, mostly to posing in pointing, stretching and smizing – and, after three hours, the uninitiated might be struck by the repetitiveness of her music.” (Hornaday). While Swift may not have danced much throughout the show, the backup dancers performed beyond expectations. I believe her setlist included variety and a sense of organization in her songs through the years. I do agree and appreciate her efforts to connect with her fans and make the concert experience as enjoyable as possible by adding additional screens and an innovative stage design for 360 visibilities. In conclusion, The Eras Tour is a solid performance from Taylor Swift that showcases her talents as a performer. (Hornaday). The show is still a must-see for any fan of the artist.
