4-6 Assignment: Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing
In "The High Price of Multitasking," Daniel T. Willingham examines how the widespread
use of smartphones has led to an increased danger through multitasking. Although laws prohibit
texting and phone use while driving, individuals must regulate their multitasking habits in other
situations, such as studying and listening to music. Multitasking results in reduced performance
with studies shown that when people try to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, their
performance on each individual task suffers due to the brain's need to switch between them.
Despite the cognitive drawbacks, multitasking is often perceived as emotionally rewarding,
making it crucial to consider the potential consequences before deciding to engage in it
(Willingham, 2019).
