ASCI 404 1.3 Scenario Discussion
I chose
Scenario 1
because as some of you may have seen from the
introduction, I am an air traffic controller and actually had to tell a pilot this
before!
From the perspective of the pilot, my response to this would be "Wilco,
(repeat number given to me for confirmation)". As an aircraft that was
previously flying VFR, or visual flight rules, with no flight plan, I could be
anyone. To the agencies that work the airspace such as the controllers at
center or the FAA as a whole, this can be seen as extremely suspicious,
especially having been reported in a restricted area. I would immediately call
the number upon landing safely to explain that I may not have been aware of
the restricted airspace and that I meant no harm. My flying records and
identification probably will be annotated, so this could help me clear my
name in case they decide to revoke my flying license. There are Federal
Aviation Regulations (FARs) in place that outline the legal behavior that is
and is not allowed, and entering a restricted area without clearance is an
extreme hazard to all parties not involved with the activity that takes place
in these areas (FAA, n.d.).
