ENG 122 Week 3 discussion Describe your strategy for listening to, and really understanding, the feedback you receive. When reading feedback from others, sometimes I have to take it and read it a few times and then read my own writing again to understand what they are stating and find the best way to make the corrections as well as ensure what they are stating is correct. Garten and Pritts stated that "Peer review is a valuable exercise since student peers can provide insight from a reader’s perspective. However, fellow students are not necessarily subject matter experts yet." (2022). While all feedback is good to receive, not all feedback is correct. This is why I have learned to read the feedback several times as well as read my own writing and interpret it towards my paper to ensure it's correct. Explain any steps you may take to get better at receiving feedback. Utilizing the steps, I tend to use, asking for just one thing and understanding my tendencies. I realize that at times I tend to get defensive when reading feedback, but over time, I have learned to take these things with a grain of salt and realize that someone is attempting to help me do better. When I ask for an area of help it's because at times I don't know where I am struggling without someone pointing to it and showing me. Discuss the different types of feedback you have received in this course. Throughout this course, I feel the most valuable feedback given to me was from our instructor. I have over time begun to utilize feedback given to me from the instructors to better my assignments and the way that waypoint allows them to break down their feedback piece by piece and show us where the feedback is directed is the most helpful. Consider at least two specific comments you have received as feedback. One specific comment I received was in a past class. I was managing to stay ahead in the class and it was nice to always be ahead and ensure my assignments were submitted on time. Little did I know, one assignment had a template attached to it and I missed it and just wrote my paper and submitted it, Long story short I had submitted the assignment completely incorrectly and had to completely restart the next week on it as well that week's work. The lesson I learned was to slow down and pay attention. another
piece of feedback I received was a simple punctuation correction I had missed in a paper. Sometimes when writing we just get deep into it and miss the little things and end up submitting a paper that has minor issues such as missed quotations. Once again it was another chance for me to slow down and read what I am submitting to ensure I am producing a proper assignment. Reference Garten, A., & Pritts, N. (2022).
