Based Decision Making online course.
When a writer is researching and gathering information to write a cohesive story they are

needing to look for certain sources in order to make sure the resources they are using are
supporting their view or topic. The writer must be able to blend the sources together and make
sure they are not only supporting each other but not causing confusion because of wording or
stance.
Aggregating Evidence is vastly used in the Healthcare profession to way the probability
versus the likelihood of something happening. When looking at the two words people might
think they are the same thing, a person is waying the odds of something happening or taking
place. Probability is taking a guess at something such as a hypothesis, the writer is taking a guess
at what the outcome might be based on the sources they are finding before they conduct their
experiment. When using evidence there will come times where you will find conflicting
statements but they are both saying the same thing. As a writer, they have to weigh the options
and figure out which one is going to be the best support to the story and to show the big picture
that is being portrayed to the reader. There will always be conflicts when researching topics,
there will always be someone who believes they have more insight or history on the topic and
their findings are the correct ones. Using probability and likelihood is using context clues and the
likelihood of the evidence being available to show how the hypothesis is going to be proven
correct or incorrect (Barends, E. & Rousseau, D. Pg. 252). In order to know which class of
evidence to use is dependent upon the type of hypothesis and what kind of data or sources are
needed to prove or disprove the overall hypothesis question. When probability is used the writer
is estimating how probable the hypothesis is to be correct or incorrect (Barends, E. & Rousseau,
D. Pg. 252).
Likelihood and probability are two very different options when researching and finding
evidence to prove or disprove a hypothesis. Each one has its own use and should be used
correctly to defend or dispute the question.
