Use a minimum of three peer reviewed resources to support your subtopics (one resource per supporting paragraph). Make sure to use complete sentences when completing the outline. Expository Essay Topic: Essay Title: I. Introduction: ( Begin with a hook sentence to capture your audience’s attention, then provide a brief background of the topic and end with your thesis statement.) a. Hook: Servicemembers leaving the military need help adjusting to a new lifestyle change after leaving the military. b. Additional background information: Servicemembers when they join the military go through a lifestyle change and when they are finished with their military service they are so used to the military way of life they have a hard time adjusting back to a life they are not used to anymore and need assistance adjusting back to the rest of the world. c. Mapped Thesis statement ( review Topic 3DQ1 for feedback from instructor ): When servicemembers leave the military their lifestyle change is drastic, and they need help adjusting to a new life.
II. Support Supporting Point #1 (subtopic 1): Veterans needing transition support at home. a. Topic sentence for this first sub-topic: Home is the basis of a solid foundation for anyone and having a support system at home is a great way to keep veterans motivated. b. Two to three paraphrased supporting details from your research with in-text citations Supporting paraphrase 1: Completing high school and continuing education afterwards can help avoid poverty after completion. (Weiss & Harris, 2018) Supporting paraphrase 2: Veterans having college experience can help with their transition experience in a positive way. (2018) Supporting Point #2 (subtopic 2): Veterans are too stuck in their ways to try a new career field. a. Topic sentence for this second sub-topic: Veterans can become too one track minded when leaving the service and harm their options when they finish with the military. b. Two to three paraphrased supporting details from your research with in-text citations Supporting paraphrase 1: The federal government has had issues hiring and keeping veterans in their staff. (Vanderschuere, & Birdsall, 2019) Supporting paraphrase 2: Bringing diversity to federal jobs may enhance the demographics and hiring chance for veterans. (Vanderschuere, & Birdsall, 2019)
Supporting Point #3 (subtopic 3): Servicemembers that are finished with their service need to make a plan to transition efficiently. a. Topic sentence for this third sub-topic: Prior to the end their term of service veterans should begin making a plan with their passions and current skills. b. Two to three paraphrased supporting details from your research with in-text citations Supporting paraphrase 1: Veterans at risk for suicide make a safety plan to help reduce their risk of suicide or self harm. (Green, Kearns, Rosen, & Keane, 2018). Supporting paraphrase 2: The reemployment of veterans have been a concern since the end of world war two and there has been plans to help veterans transition back to normal life. (D. Christie Tait, 1945) III. Conclusion: ( Paraphrase your thesis statement, summarize main points, and make final remarks. ) a. Paraphrase thesis statement: Transitioning back to civilian life is a drastic change from what veterans are used to. b. Summarize main points: Veterans need a solid support system. Veterans need to broaden their horizons with new career choices. Veterans need to make plans prior to their transition from service.
