LopesWrite Questions
Grand Canyon University uses a program called LopesWrite that aids its students by
allowing them to check for plagiarism before submitting their assignments. One main benefit of
this program is that it allows students the chance to better their papers and assignments, if their
similarity report was above the maximum allowed percentage. For instance, if a student has a
similarity score that is above the threshold, then the student has the opportunity to remove the
uploaded file and edit their assignment before the final submission. LopesWrite is a useful tool
that students should utilize to check their similarity score before turning in their work. Secondly,
LopesWrite also has a built-in grammar, spelling, and punctuation checker that students should
check for as well before submitting their assignments. This is critical for students to check
because bad grammar, spelling, and punctuation can make it difficult for the professor to
understand what is being said or explained. This can impact the overall score of the assignment.
In the instance that student receives a similarity score of 35%, then the student should
double check that their cited information is no more than 20% of the assignment. The student
should also reopen their source they are using, read it carefully, so that the material is fully
understood. It is also important to note that the student should be taking notes while reading their
sources. Next the student should close their source completely to avoid plagiarizing. When
editing an assignment that receives a high similarity score, the student should remember to use
their own ideas and take what they have read to back up their statements. Completing an
assignment that has more than 20% of cited material is not even worth writing, since it is not an
original idea or one’s own work.
