ENGL 1405 Unit 7 March 14-20 Unit 7: Children's Literature Topics Cultural exploration through story Micro-fiction processing Children’s Literature Learning Objectives Critically assess a fictive narrative and identify its key concepts. Discuss given readings while applying techniques learned for synthesis. Compose a practice based research into the area of short-story literature. Tasks Read the Learning Guide and Reading Assignments Participate in the Discussion Assignment (post, comment, and rate in the Discussion Forum) Complete and submit the Written Assignment Make entries to the Learning Journal Take the Self-Quiz Introduction Children’s literature is one of the foundations for all reading. Most of the fairy tales are oral traditions that eventually were written down. This is how written language takes off and was instrumental in teaching literacy for adults and children alike. For your Discussion Forum, you will describe what images came to mind when you read your selected story. The Written
Assignment will have you discuss a fairy tale from your childhood and the Learning Journal will have you rewrite the story you created for the last two weeks and turn it into a 1-3 sentence piece of micro-fiction. Although not required, it is strongly suggested to take the Self-Quiz as they will prove useful study guides for the Graded Quizzes later in the unit. Reading Assignment The reading assignments for this unit are: ENGL 1405 Unit 7 Powerpoint / PDF – Micro Fiction.
