RUNNING HEAD: FINAL PROJECT: MILESTONE ONE 1 HSE 310 Final Project: Milestone One Southern New Hampshire University
RUNNING HEAD: FINAL PROJECT: MILESTONE ONE 2 Julio, Quiana Riverez, and their five children ages from one to fifteen live seven miles outside of Chicago, Illinois in a community called Englewood. Currently, the Riverez family is having multiple difficulties that they need to overcome with assistance from the community. One of the issues is with their fifteen-year-old son Rico. Rico is having an arduous time staying in school. Julio and Quianna are having issues on maintaining control over Rico at home also. Julio does not speak English like the rest of his family does. In turn, Julio and Quinna are having a strenuous time communicating the disciplinary actions they need to give their children. The Riverez family has no outside support from their extended family or the community at the present time. The reasons that the Riverez family is not receiving any support from their extended family is due to conflict that arose when they lived with Quianna’s parents prior to residing at their home now in Englewood. Julio is the only adult working in the household, while having to manage his health problems at the same time. One year ago, Julio was shot in the chest in front of the family in front of their home by rival gang members. Quianna has been having nightmares about her husband being shot and having a tough time dealing with this emotionally, along with feeling overwhelmed and frustrated staying at home taking care of their children. The Riverez family is not making enough money towards purchasing necessities, utilities, and their rent. With Julio only knowing how to speak Spanish, it remains demanding of him towards having to work two part-time jobs, one job working third shift at a factory and the other job working at a local diner as a cook. Julio and Quianna could have their children removed from the home when living in a situation like they currently reside in. However, it is crucial for the Riverez family to know that there are resources that can assist them in the community with the help from an advocate (C. Bogensen, 2021).
