Johnson 2 Assessment Tools Conventions of Standard English CCSS.ELA- LITERACY.L.3.1. C Grade: 3 Use Abstract Nouns Abstract nouns are ideas and concepts that are related to how you feel or think. Informal : ( Lesson Video) I would show a video to the students called Abstract Noun Song. After watching the video I would open up a group discussion where students can give me examples of abstract nouns. I will also have them use an abstract noun in a sentence as well. I will be able to observe and listen to what they are saying and assist if someone does not understand. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/-KwZvhd63so Informal : (Name that Picture) I would show the class an assortment of pictures that represents abstract nouns. Students will be allowed to raise their hand and tell me what abstract noun does the picture represent. An example would be a picture of someone covering their face, some students may say the picture represents sadness, scared or embarrassment. This gives students a chance to give their input and connect an abstract noun to a picture. Formal : (Multiple Choice Formative Assessment) Each student will receive a paper where they will have to pick which abstract noun goes with the sentence. An example would be: My mother always shows great compassion for her children. a) mother b) great c) compassion d)children Formal : (Identify Abstract Noun Formative Assessment) Each student will receive a paper where they will have to circle abstract noun(s) in each sentence. An example would be: We are here to give help to the needy.
Johnson 3 Conventions of Standard English CCSS.ELA- LITERACY.L.4.2.A Grade: 4 Use Correct Capitalization Capitalizing proper nouns, names of specific nouns and the first word in any sentence. Informal : ( Nearpod Lesson) I would have students do a lesson that would help them identify with capitalizing people’s names and rewriting sentences using correct capitalization. Informal : ( Toss and Talk) I would have a small beach ball that students would toss to each other. Whoever catches it must shout out a name, place or product brand that is capitalized. Or I will have sentences for them to read and they must tell me what needs to be capitalized. Formal : (Rewrite Sentences Formative Assessment) Each student will receive a paper that will have different sentences that contain capitalization errors. They must identify what needs to correct and rewrite. An example would be: Mr. harris loves giving out snickers on halloween. Formal : (Multiple Choice Formative Assessment) Each student will receive a paper that will have sentences that have capitalization errors. Students must choose the correct answer. An example would be: i love attending Tenaya elementary school a) I love attending Tenaya elementary school b) i love attending Tenaya Elementary School c) I love attending Tenaya Elementary School
