to identify aspects of the literacy experience Summary:
You will view/listen to the storybook Interrupting Chicken
by Harold Geezer. You will create an exemplar of the assignment to use in your classroom when you teach this lesson. Lastly, you will write a reflection of your experience.
You will need:

An internet connection to view/listen to the book

Paper and art supplies or a computer/laptop
Activities:
1.
Recall the stories of Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Chicken Little.
A.
Hansel and Gretel is an old fairytale horror story about two German children named Hansel and Gretel who are left in the woods by their father after their step mother convinces the father there isn't enough to eat. The father abandons them and the children try to find their way back. They find however, an old woman who offers to help them only to discover her true intentions to eat the children. Gretel tricks the woman into getting into the oven and the two children live happily ever after with her fortune.
In the end the importance of sticking together and tricking the old woman using smarts saved the children.
B.
Little Red Riding Hood is an old German fairytale about a young girl who was beautiful and loved by her grandmother. Her grandmother was sick so she went to
bring her grandmother some cake and wine. She is told by her mother to stay on the path and to go directly to her grandmother's house but is met by a wolf. She tells the wolf of her plans and the wolf beats Little Red Riding Hood to the house as she gets distracted picking flowers. The wolf meets and ends up eating the grandmother. The wolf ultimately eats Little Red Riding Hood after it is discovered that he is not her grandmother, and is only saved when a huntsman sees the wolf lying asleep and cuts the wolf open with scissors saving the young girl and the grandmother. In the end Red Riding Hood learns her lesson about staying on the right path and the importance of listening to your parents.
C.
Chicken Little is an old English folklore about a chicken who is struck on the head with an acorn and immediately believes that the sky is falling. He then goes to his friends and one by one they join him to go and meet the king to let him know. As soon as him and his friends run into Foxy Loxy he declares the King is in his den. Chicken Little waits as each of his friends go into the den and disappear and only realizes almost all too late the fate of his friends. In the end the
lesson of Chicken Little is to not listen to everything someone says right away and
to not jump to conclusions. References

A.) Design a model exemplar of the assignment with the excerpt of one of the three children’s stories from the story book on the top ½ of the page. Locate the little chicken’s ‘ending’ to the story and type it into the lower ½ of the page. This is your ‘model exemplar ’ for when you teach this class. You will submit the model template you will use with the students when you teach this story.

In the original story of Hansel and Gretel the children are almost eaten by a witch and only escape after being able to outsmart her, pushing her into the oven.The story is also originally a horror story and is meant to teach children a lesson. In the version “Interrupting Chicken” the story barely even begins because the little chicken doesn't want anything bad to happen therefore you never get to hear the ending.
b.
In the story of “Interrupting Chicken” by David Ezra Stein, Hansel and Gretel tells the story of two children who are very hungry and find a house made of candy. They then are about to go into the house after being invited in by a seemingly kindly old woman. Only to have the little chicken shout out that the woman is in fact a witch which ultimately interrupts and ruins the story. Little chicken can not stop herself from ruining the story because she is too afraid something bad will happen. c.
