At last year's United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) some
industrializing countries argued they should not have to meet stringent climate
emissions as they are simply following the same path industrialized nations took
earlier in their history (beginning in the mid-1700s during the first industrial
revolution). Do you agree or disagree with this argument?
Briefly
explain your
reasoning in a few sentences (200-300 words).
Although some industrializing countries say they are following the same path that their countries
took in earlier years, I believe they should have to meet the climate emissions. Even if these
countries don’t have as big of an impact individually on climate change, they can help other
countries find ways to help keep their emissions low. One country can’t change the problem of
climate change by itself, so it becomes a collective group effort to help keep emission costs low.
Even with history being super important in the world, low-industrializing countries can have help
from stronger developed countries to gain support in transitioning in adjusting to be more
sustainable. On the other side, I can see why these countries want to keep following what their
countries are used to. They want to do what continues to work for them and aren’t really looking
at the bigger picture. Although they may not see that it would benefit the world, they seem to
only be worried about their history and not the environment surrounding their countries.
