Week 4 Assignment Sustainable Living Guide Contributions, Part Four of Four: Sustaining our Atmosphere and Climate Your Term: Renewable Energy Renewable energy is the energy that comes from natural sources that replenish at a higher rate than consumed. There are different renewable energy resources all around. Some examples of renewable energy sources are solar energy, wind energy, bioenergy, and hydroelectric energy. Environmental protection and economic development can be established by utilizing renewable energy sources. “From past to present, renewable energy sources have been involved in various transformations. It is very important in terms of the policies it has developed to minimize environmental pollution and prevent the climate crisis” (Ersoz, Bulbul, 2022, sec 2.2). The research conducted provides proof that renewable energy is beneficial in leading to a more sustainable environment. There are many benefits to using renewable energy. A major benefit is, using “renewables are the cheapest form of power today” (La Camera, 2022 as cited by IRENA. Para. 4). This is because “using sunlight to generate electricity through a solar panel, or wind to generate electricity through a spinning turbine, does not deplete those resources” (Bensel, Carbone. 2020. sec. 7.1). With renewable energy being produced from natural sources, there is a decrease in carbon emissions and air pollution from energy production. This would reduce global warming. Using solar and wind energy would also allow people who are non-grid-connected, coastal, or live on islands to have access to clean energy utilizing the renewable energy
resources. New jobs in the renewable energy industry will be created providing the economy stability and the ability to grow. There are multiple ways in which we can promote sustainability by using renewable energy. It is as easy as turning off the lights, computers, TV’s, radios, and appliances. This would allow for energy to be conserved so it is not wasted, also reducing the amount of pollution given off from the power plants. Take shorter showers, shut off water during brushing, and add a brick to your toilet tank. These actions would allow water use to be minimized or reduced to provide water sustainability. While these actions may not create a ton of change it is a step in the right direction. There are many more actions that can be taken to provide more environmental sustainability. References :
