Which reference group(s) impacts you the most? Why? Provide 3 reasons. The reference groups that influence me the most are my family, close peers, and people in my community. -Since I was young to now being a young adult my family has skewed my opinions and beliefs about products, services, music, clothing, etc. For example, I prefer Diet Coke to any other pop beverage because my family has it as a staple in my home. - My close peers always influence my purchasing decisions, especially in music, clothing, clubs, and restaurants, I trust them as personal friends, so I choose to trust them with their guidance on where I should shop and eat. I prefer word-of-mouth recommendations to sway my influence. Last week, a peer from class told me about Pilgram jewelry in the Eaton Centre, after class, I went to the store and purchased three pieces of jewelry. - I trust my community for their recommendations of products I purchase due to their opinions and shared experiences, a sense of familiarity, and the belief that their insights align with my preferences. The social connection and shared values create reliability and credibility for me while influencing me with confidence with their suggestions. •Which subcultures do you belong to? Which brand communities do you belong to? How have these subcultures and brand communities influenced you and your purchase decisions? I belong to the subculture that strives to be Boujee (luxurious) on a Budget. This community is connected to luxurious fashion houses like Louis
Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, Prada, etc. This subculture finds designer items for less, or alternatives/dupes for expensive accessories, clothing, and makeup/skin care. This online community influences me to save money by purchasing the inspired or discounted item rather than spending upwards of thousands of dollars on the luxury version of the product. This community resonates with me due to the lack of funds I have due to expensive school fees and living in an expense city like Toronto. •Based on slide 46 (i.e., diffusion of innovations), which would you categorize as yourself, why? Based on slide 46 I categorize myself as an early adaptor. In fashion, I keep up with trends and display them throughout my daily life no matter how ridiculous society views are towards the trend before its height in popularity. I continuously make an effort to research new trends and fads that arise on the fashion scene, I also try to predict what new fashion pieces could become popular in the next season.
