Part 1: Planetary Core of the Solar System Planets 1. Do gas giants have solid cores? Gas giants have a soli nickel iron rock core. 2. How did Earth develop its magnetic field? Earth developed its magnetic field through the rotation on its axis. 3. What is one new thing you learned about Mercury's core? Mercury’s core is about 1,260 miles wide. 4. What is one new thing you learned about Venus' core? Very similar to Earth with a similar sized iron core, Venus does not have its own internally generated magnetic field. 5. What is one new thing you learned about the Earth's core? Earth’s core generates its own magnetic field. 6. What is one new thing you learned about Mars' core? Mar’s core is made of iron, nickel, and sulfur. 7. What is one new thing you learned about Jupiter's core? One thing that I learned about Jupiter’s core is that there is still a lot unknown about the core itself. 8. What is one new thing you learned about Saturn's core? Saturn’s core is much more liquid than solid. 9. What is one new thing you learned about Uranus's core? Uranus has a solid rocky core. 10.
