Clinical Field Experience A: Physical Activity Clinical Field Experience A: Physical Activity Ensuring children grow healthy and happy requires a holistic approach that includes regular physical exercise. Incorporating physical education into the regular school day is crucial to this approach. Teachers understand the importance of keeping children active and use various creative methods to encourage classroom movement, play, and exercise. During my visit to a childcare facility, I learned that Ms. Greenwood and her fellow teachers prioritize the physical well-being of their students. The children have recess and physical activity time four times a week, during which they engage in various activities such as running, jumping, and playing games. These activities help the children stay physically fit and teach them essential skills like teamwork, coordination, and communication. The students have a set routine during recess and after their afternoon nap. During structured playtime, the teachers provide them with informative and colorful toys before they go home. During the rest of the day, the children participate in various centers, engaging in activities that promote learning and creativity. They also have a meal, engage in physical activity, nap, and wake up through music and movement. To ensure that the children get enough exercise, the teachers include physical exercise in their learning goals every week. These goals are designed to promote the children's physical, mental, and emotional development. By prioritizing physical education and exercise, the teachers at the childcare facility ensure that their students grow up healthy, happy, and well-rounded individuals. As a teacher, it is essential to incorporate physical activities into lesson plans for children, especially those in their early stages of development. For instance, concepts like colors and numbers can be taught through active games like "run to the color green," where children can learn while having fun. This is particularly important since children have a lot of energy and do not always learn best by sitting and listening. In my future classrooms, I plan to implement various strategies that I have developed to make learning more interactive and engaging. One such strategy is turning any lesson into a physical game in which the children can participate. This strategy can be used to teach almost any subject. For example, in a game I devised, students had to get up and dance in the circle's center if their shoe color was called. This game not only helped teach colors but also helped develop social skills and promote physical activity. By using these strategies, I aim to ensure that my pupils regularly engage in physical activity while simultaneously being exposed to knowledge assessments in a non-stressful setting. This approach will help create a conducive environment for learning and ensure that the children look forward to coming to school. 2
