Question 4 12.5 / 12.5 pts Your Answer: Question 5 10 / 10 pts Your Answer: Nutritional status needs to be considered to understand the growth pattern of children. To go more in depth would need to understand the child's caloric intake, and any nutrient de²ciencies that would promote a healthy growth pattern. Overnutrition would lead to obesity, and malnutrition would lead to de²ciencies in important vitamin and nutrients. Environmental factors help to shape growth patterns. In a low-income environment, the access to healthcare and proper nutrition can be detrimental to the growth pattern for children. Due to the lack of healthcare resources, it may lead to future health complications or diseases to a developing child. Feeding practices such as technique, duration, frequency of the breastfeeding mother and child can impact the growth pattern and either cause malnutrition or overnutrition which both affects growth patterns. Discuss maternal factors with the potential of causing either a slow infant weight gain, or insu³cient production of breastmilk. Include methods of management for each condition. Maternal factors such as nutrition, alcohol use, and underlying medical conditions has a potential for causing a slow infant weight gain or insu³cient breast milk production. Malnutrition of the mother will affect the infant's weight gain, because breastfeeding burns calories and if the mother is unable to keep up with the caloric demand of breastfeeding, the mother will become ill or have di³culties breastfeeding the child which leads to a slow infant weight gain. Management of malnutrition would include proper daily nutritional intake to keep up with the demand and allow the proper nutrients to be delivered to the infant through breastfeeding. Alcohol use is detrimental to the infant and can be detected in the mother up 2 hours after consumption and would affect an infant's growth. By limiting the amount of alcohol consumption or waiting a longer period of time to metabolize the alcohol will reduce the negative impact of alcohol intake. Underlying medical conditions can affect breastmilk production due complications that affect the overall maternal health. Discuss cultures identi²ed as being reluctant to breastfeed in public. What is the source of the reluctance?
