Introduction Lawrence Swim School is a swim school in Lawrence, KS that teaches young children, teens, and adults the lifesaving practice of water safety. Lawrence Swim School has operated with the same owners, scheduling, and organization for the past decade. While the scheduling does work most of the time it is not generally effective and could use some help. New organization and scheduling could help retain customers, teachers, and relieve stress and confusion in the process. Making these changes could have vital effects on Lawrence swim school and even increase revenue from customers. Adding new software and scheduling would be an easy fix to greatly impact LSS. I will be conducting research and discussing the issues that I have addressed above. I will address who these issues affect, how they are impacted, provide insight from a teacher at LSS, provide different ideas as to what changes could be made, give potential benefits of these changes, and how it could greatly impact LSS. At the end of the day, in the service industry customer satisfaction is very important, and these changes could greatly increase customer satisfaction, retention, and increase recommendations for LSS. My plan will include some solutions, who can help with this, and how to implement these solutions. Background As a previous swim lesson teacher at Lawrence Swim School, I was in charge of managing lessons, giving lessons, and finding a way to fit in children when they showed up at the wrong time or changed their lesson and it was not marked correctly. I oversaw providing information as to when customers next lessons were and when they could come in next. The lack of proper scheduling and organization made this an extremely difficult and tedious, as well as confusing to both the teacher and customer. Due to the lack of a scheduling system and improper organization, it makes it extremely difficult to obtain new customers and retain old ones, making it nearly impossible to have a sustainable business model. I have found many resources to provide insight into my formal report. I have focused on the importance of swim safety to the city of Lawrence, and how scheduling effects businesses positively. (think this out more thoroughly) Discussion This section will provide insight to the main issues with LSS and how they affect the teachers and customers that they provide for. These issues need to be addressed in order to ensure long term success for LSS and its owners.

Primary source insight and how she feels about the current structure of LSS, what she thinks that they can and should do, and how she thinks it will effect their overall business success. Her insight is important because while she has worked for LSS in the past, she is also a current instructor so she has seen how the business has grown and evolved over the last decade. I will also discuss how water safety is a priority of the city of Lawrence and how LSS is vital to the city. Swim safety can be life-saving for children and adults and is an important skill that many people want their children or themselves to learn. In addition to reducing risk around water, it can also benefit children during the summer as a way to keep them active and moving during their time off. Swimming is a life long sport and can keep you safe and healthy for years to come, one swim lessons can change someone’s life and even introduce them into the sport of swimming. I will use graphics to illustrate the importance of water safety for children from reputable and accredited sources. I will also use graphics that show how scheduling can positively impact revenue and productivity for small businesses and companies. Conclusion Looking for some for a company or person to assist in a new scheduling system or format would be greatly beneficial to LSS and their long term success and operations. While the business has operated for a good amount of time, with the increase of customers and access to digital software, this change could take their business and revenue to the next level. Being 2022, LSS needs to be able to change with the times and use an organized and improved system in order to stay up to date and relevant in the City of Lawrence. Companies that use scheduling software have found many benefits and been able to make these changes with very little amounts of effort compared to the great return they receive. Keeping payments, scheduling, changing lesson times, and scheduling teachers would be much easier if it was done online rather than paper pencil and over text message only. Recommendations Use a scheduling software or system for customers - Excel spreadsheet- would allow for changes to be made by customers, owners or teachers, is relatively easy to use and not much learning that would need to be done from either side of the business. - Google form- extremely easy to use from both sides, would take little time to format and implement, could be used for both teachers and customers but would need 2 separate forms. - Sign up genius- less formal and could be confusing to some, all info in one place, could be hard to access and might get a little confusing, does just what LSS needs and nothing more.
