Public Health organizations have evolved over the years to ensure the overall health of our nation. In this module I learned about many organizations that I had an idea of what they did but had no idea the true impact they had on the world. I decided to focus on The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, widely known as the CDC. Their website address is www.cdc.gov
. The mission of the CDC is to work day and night to protect America from health, and safety and security threats both foreign and in the US. The values of this organization at its core is to keep us as safe as possible by acting quickly and create solutions when threats arise. The CDC describes its goals as being a diligent steward of the funds entrusted to the agency, base all public heath decisions on the highest quality of scientific data, place the
benefits to society above the benefit of the institution and create an environment that is safe for all.
I was drawn to this organization because I have interest in working for the CDC upon graduating. This organization aligns with my professional goals because I want to work directly in infection and disease control. As a student this organizations offers the opportunity to research statistics and how to create initiatives to combat diseases. As a future professional they offer training and continuing education, like a course on stopping Hepatitis B and preventing infections in the Dialysis setting, the CDC also teaches how to create quality public health training. In the future I could become involved by possibly interning or becoming employed at one of their branches.
