Health Care Accreditation
It is important to achieve accreditation for a healthcare organization. Any healthcare organization
can achieve and maintain accreditation through the Joint Commission or the National Committee
for Quality Assurance. Accreditation is important for a healthcare organization because it helps ensure that the organization has access to specific training, materials, data, and equipment (Impact of Accreditation, 2020). A healthcare organization must perform assessments, policies, and techniques to obtain a accreditation from the Joint Commission or the National Committee for Quality Assurance. There are approximately two known accreditation agencies, the Joint Commission on Accreditation Health Care (JCAHO) and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAHC). When it comes to applying for accreditation it is important to establish the purpose of the accreditation agency and how it will support the organization. It is vital to not only find the importance of the accreditation agencies, but it is also important to find out how the agency will benefit patients. Accreditation
Accreditation is a thoughtful program that is supported by a non-governmental organization (Alkhenzian & Shaw, 2011). Trained personnel observe and evaluate healthcare organizations to ensure they are meeting external peer reviewers (Alkhenzian & Shaw, 2011). Trained personnel also evaluate the healthcare organizations accordance and performance standards (Alkhenzian & Shaw, 2011). There are two known accreditations governing health care organizations known as the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare. The purpose of the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations is to prioritize patient safety and to organize the organization. This will ensure patient confidence when they are receiving care by ensuring they are receiving
quality treatment and obtain adequate services. The Joint Commission of Accreditation improves risk management and risk reduction by educating all healthcare professionals (Why achieve, n,d.). The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare is responsible for providing peripheral. It allows healthcare organizations to recognize standards, policies, processes, procedures, and outcomes. By using voluntary, peer-based, and education process, allows the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare to ensure quality of care is improving throughout a healthcare organization (Patients/AAAHC, 2021). All accreditation agencies are responsible for providing all appropriate healthcare organizations with education and evaluation to ensure they are meeting all requirements for standards and procedures for patient care. Maintenance of Accreditation
The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations accredits approximately 22,000 healthcare organizations (Facts about Joint Commission, n.d.). The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare does accreditations for hospitals, home care, nursing homes, behavioral health, ambulatory care, and laboratory services. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care accredits approximately 6,000 healthcare organizations (Accreditation Association, 2021). The healthcare organizations that obtain accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care is surgery centers, community centers, medical groups, dental groups, home healthcare, managed care, and Indian health centers (Accreditation Associations, 2021).
Accreditation and Reaccreditation
