Exercise: From Intent to Action: The Planning Path
Select a specific healthcare organization that you know something about. If you are or have been employed in health care, use your employing organization. (But whether it is your organization or another, there is no need to specifically identify it.) You may use a hospital, nursing home, health center, rehabilitation service, surgicenter, urgent care center, or any of a number of other health settings. Assume you are a department manager within your chosen setting.
Instructions
1.
Write a mission statement for the organization, concise yet appropriately descriptive of why the organization exists.
The purpose of our state rehabilitation center is to extend a helping hand to individuals in need, irrespective of their financial background. Our center is dedicated to creating a warm and secure environment where patients can receive comprehensive care that prioritizes their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The staff at our center is committed to providing personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. They encourage and empower patients to actively participate in their recovery journey. The ultimate aim of our center is to assist patients in attaining their full potential and reintegrating into society successfully, thereby improving their overall health and quality of life at an affordable price. 2.
Consistent with the organization’s mission as expressed in the foregoing statement, develop a statement of philosophy for your department.
At our center, we understand that every patient is unique and deserves individualized care that is respectful, compassionate, and empowering. We are committed to offering evidence-based treatment options, ongoing support, and a range of resources to promote wellness and recovery
for all our patients. We believe in collaboration and communication among healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to ensure a comprehensive and practical rehabilitation experience. Our ultimate goal is to assist each patient in achieving their full potential and to create a culture of respect, empathy, and excellence. Rest assured that our state rehabilitation center provides high-quality care that meets each patient's needs.
3.
Write one major policy that supports this philosophy.
We believe every patient is unique and, therefore, deserves individualized care that is respectful, compassionate, and empowering care. We understand that each patient’s needs may

Our approach centers on treating patients with the utmost dignity and respect, recognizing their individuality, and giving care sensitive to their cultural, religious, and social backgrounds. We believe that by empowering patients with the knowledge and tools to manage their healthcare needs, we can help them achieve optimal health outcomes and a higher quality of life.
4.
Write two or three specific procedures that express aspects of the above policy as instructions for action (keeping in mind that a policy is ordinarily a statement of what is to be done, and a procedure consists of how it should be done).
Maintaining a kind and respectful demeanor is crucial when interacting with a patient. Even if the patient's condition is challenging, remaining calm and composed throughout the conversation is essential.
Also, remember that each patient has unique needs, so the treatment plan should be tailored accordingly. As a healthcare provider, you are responsible for ensuring that the patient's
