IYM1: CPE Impact Analysis Template Impact Analysis Template Benefits: Identify two categories and two benefits for each category that will be positively impacted by implementing your improvement project. Use a norms-based scale, as a method of quantifying the impact that the benefits will have. Give a “1” rating for Low Impact, a “2” rating for Moderate Impact, and a “3” rating for High Impact. Total these benefit ratings and enter the sum in the “Total Benefits Score” cell. Category Improvement Project Benefits Rating Organizational 1. Improved patient outcomes 3 2. Minimize risks of surgical site complications or infections 3 Consumer 1. Improved patient satisfaction 3 2. Decrease in costs of additional (unneeded) visits related to a surgical site complication or infection 2 Total Benefits Score 11 Risks: Using the same categories identified in the “Benefits” section, identify two risks for each of the two categories that may be negatively impacted by implementing your improvement project. As you did in the “Benefits” section, rate the risks using the norms-based scale of “1” meaning Low Impact, “2” meaning Moderate Impact, and “3” meaning High Impact. Total these ratings and enter the sum in the “Total Risks Score” cell. Category Improvement Project Risks Rating Organizationa l 1. Increase stress on staff to complete additional investigation and documentation 2 2. Variable surgical closure and/or dressings used 2 Consumer 1. Inadequate pre-operative education for incisional care if unknown what surgical closure and/or dressing may be used 2 2. Possibilty of additional testing to be performed prior to Surgery to confirm allergy 2 Total Risks Score 8 Calculate the impact ratio by dividing the benefits total score by the risks total score, then enter that ratio into the table below. Use the criteria in the table below to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks. Impact Ratio = 1.4 [Benefits Rating total score divided by Risks Rating total score] If the ratio is > 1, the benefits outweigh the risks. If the ratio = 1, there is no difference between the benefits and the risks. If the ratio is < 1, the risks outweigh the benefits. PAGE 1
