Do's and Dont's of IEP Meeting

Double check people’s attendance, paperwork, room number in advance Maintain a friendly and focused environment such as greeting and introducing people. Arrive and set up before the parents arrive to the meeting. Discuss and remind others of the purpose of the meeting. Give parents copies of documents such as parent rights and reports. Explain and go over reports and progress in a way parents can understand. Post signs outside the door to inform others that a meeting is in progress. The Dont’s Remind team members last minute. Show up late to an IEP meeting. Be on your phone or laptop during the meeting. Forget documents such as parent rights and reports on student progress. Wait last minute to find out who will be in attendance. Allow for interruptions. Talk negatively or blame the parents for things. Bring food or drinks to the IEP meeting. Be unprepared to explain reports and or documents. Get off topic or talk over each other. Start the meeting late and make the parents to wait.
