Complete your week 2 required discussion prompts: Discussion Prompt 1: You have identified your topic of interest and it’s time to formulate your research question. Your research question needs to be focused and specific. Please make sure to state your research question completely. For example: Unfocused and too broad: What are the effects of childhood obesity in the United States? This question is so broad that research methodology would be very difficult and the question is too broad to be discussed in a typical research paper. More focused: How does childhood obesity impact academic performance in elementary school children? This question has a very clear focus for which data can be collected, analyzed, and discussed. Need help developing a research question? Check out this video: How to Develop a Good Research Topic (Video: 4:33) At what rate has Covid affected cost-related prescription nonadherence (CRN) among Americans with chronic illnesses? REPLIES: Peggy, This is a great topic. It really is an issue for the elderly, which I assume is only made worse with quarantine. I usually associate more depression with those above 65 who have lost a spouse or partner, but the age 50-65 is also a very important population. Those who are possibly parents or grandparents who have many responsibilities of taking care of their families while preparing for retirement. I think you will find a lot of interesting information on this topic. I am interested to learn more. Lindsey Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (2008). I am sure many of us are interested to see your findings. I have taken my grandmother for her first COVID vaccine about three weeks ago, we are currently
waiting for her second shot. We were told we had to wait 28 days. She experienced no side effects and is currently 88 (almost 89) years old. She was given Moderna at the local pharmacy in Navasota, TX. She is schedule for the second one next week. I am happy to let you know if she experiences anything this next go around. Best of luck to you ;) Lindsey Gagandeep Gill ONLINE FACULTY MANAGER Posted Date: January 22, 2021 4:35 PM Status: Published Hi Lindsey, Thanks for sharing- What kind of study design would be close to saying for those that take the vaccine would be helpful? COVID VACCINE RESEARCH – WHAT KIND OF STUDY DESIGN WOULD YOU USE AND WHY? Dr. Gill, Because COVID is still relatively new, I would conduct a survey based study for those individuals who have received the vaccinations. Such questions asked would be of outcomes of the vaccination. First, we would need to know which vaccination the individual was given. Next, what (if any) symptoms were experienced afterwards. Day 1, Day 2, etc. Were there any side effects? Any injection site irritation? We will not be able to monitor efficacy right away, as this takes years to complete. Long-term side effects will not be evident for even decades possibly. Lindsey Lau F. Chapter 13 Methods for Survey Studies. In: Lau F, Kuziemsky C, editors.
