Report
1 Muskan Ghale Dr. Sharon A. Manna GOVT-2306- 71306 5 November, 2023 I want to run for "Texas State Senate.” Part II: When You Win Considering the economic and demographic characteristics of Texas standard District 12, different committees align with the identified needs of the districts (The Texas Senate, 2019). Here are the three committees that I will consider serving on if elected: Educational committee: Serving on the educational committee will be my top priority. This committee is important because it will allow me to work on higher education and K12 education policies, which are highly critical areas in the district. With a significant population of college-educated residents, shaping a Workforce and educational outcome is critical (The Texas Tribune, 2020). Some of the critical responsibilities of this committee are to impact educational outcomes directly, provide funding for schools, and improve educational standards. I will improve teacher qualifications, curriculum stranders, and school funding. The education committee's substantive focus on education policy position is critical in shaping the quality of education in Texas Senate District 12. Transportation committee : The transportation committee is another important committee for me, given the suburban and diverse nature of the district. The transportation committee focuses on substantive issues relevant to transportation infrastructure. The committee is critical in addressing road maintenance, traffic congestion, and access to reliable transportation options. Infrastructure and transportation are important issues, and serving on this committee will allow me to address this transportation challenge (Dallas News, 2022). I will work on policies to decrease conjunction, enhance the district transportation system, and improve public transportation. Health and Human Service Committee: The Health and Human Services Committee is also vital in addressing the needs of the districts, which include an increased number of ageing people. The Health and Human Service Committee is substantive and plays a critical role in supporting vulnerable people and making healthier affordable for them. The committee is also responsible for the ageing population's health, which is extremely important for my district. The committee will allow me to advocate for policies relevant to affordable senior care, health care access, and social services. This committee will allow me to support initiatives for improving constituents' well-being. Explain why your placement on these committees is justified. How does it serve your district's needs? How does it emphasise your experiences/interests? I selected the education, Health and Human Services, and transportation committees for my placement because these committees directly align with my Texas Senate District 12 district needs. The education committee can help me address my district's workplace development and educational issues, where my expertise and education policies can help improve educational opportunities and standards. Similarly, my placement on the transportation committee would help me deal with the district's diverse and suburban nature, allowing me to advocate for a more effective transportation system for improving the quality of life for constituents. Meanwhile, my placement on the Health and Human Service Committee will help me cater for the distinctive issues of various demographics, especially the ageing population, and support the vulnerable
2 population. These committees are selected based on my interest in my experiences and issues faced by Texas Senate District 12. What kind of constituent service would you be likely to do? What kind of "home style" would you create (and how)? Most Texans need to learn who their legislators are. How do you seek to solve that problem? In Texas Senate District 12, I would strive to create a home style that is empathetic, accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of the people in the district. To improve constituent engagement, I will maintain a district office with open-door policies so that it will be easy for the constituents to seek assistance and provide feedback. Regular town hall meetings will serve as a forum for constructive feedback and open dialogue. Embracing digital platforms will help me provide my constituents with updated data on legislative activities, enabling them to stay informed and actively participate in the democratic process. In addition, I will actively engage with my local community and initiate partnerships for supporting district-specific projects to ensure my community needs are met. I will implement an educational program and better job access to address such issues. This program will include offline and online initiatives to raise awareness about my services and my role as a legislator. It will also involve community outreach events, participation in local activities, and school visits to connect with constituents directly. Using these tips from the National Conference of State Legislators, I will prioritise two-way communication through district-specific communications and regular newsletters. In addition, I will be actively involved in the decision-making process by taking input on legislative matters to address people's concerns. Through accessibility, transparency and strong commitment, I will bridge the gap and ensure the district is well-informed about their rights and legislators. References Dallas News.
