The Role of the Brain Activities throughout my day: 1. When we make a cup of coffee , we activate the primary motor cortex, which controls voluntary movements. 2. Taking my dog for a walk requires the cerebellum to signal the rest of the body to maintain balance. 3. When I brush my teeth , the left parietal lobe is responsible for controlling the movements involved in this action. 4. Reading two chapters . The frontal lobe controls this action as well as speech production, reading fluency, grammar usage, and comprehension. 5. Doing a load of laundry ; the part of the brain that is being used is the cerebrum. This is also known as an automatic function such as breathing and digestion. Brain Structure: Gaining a better understanding of the left parietal lobe and how our brain uses motor representations. So, when this part of our brain is damaged, it becomes more difficult to perform daily activities. When you are in a car accident and the left side of your brain is damaged it becomes hard to do these activities since your brain is not able to “develop new motor representations or memories” (Haaland et al., 2019). In the left parietal lobe, we develop something that scientists are calling motor representations. These Motor representations are created by groups of brain cells that interact to help you perform a movement you have learned (Haaland et al., 2019).
