Introductio n Global health is important for all nations. We are not separated but should be considered as one world. Global health is an initiative that was made to promote the health across the world. The goal is address issues that affect health such as research, policy, education, and practice. Through research this initiative determines what factors cause health concerns and how to alleviate the issues. (Chen et al., 2020). Health inequality is linked to social inequality. According to the CDC, Health equity advocates for the fair delivery of healthcare to all individuals regardless of socioeconomic status, race, gender, or geographic location. Healthcare inequalities has long been documented as a precursor to infectious disease transmission and poor health outcomes (Siu, 2020).
Healthcare Inequalities Healthcare inequality still exists today especially in Africa. According to the WHO 2018, maternal and infant mortality are of the worst healthcare outcomes in Africa. There are many factors causing this outcome that we will discuss in this presentation. This presentation will provide an overview of the healthcare disparity, contributing factors and outcomes, a global comparison, and interventions to promote health equity.
Maternal and Infant mortality in Nigeria Maternal Mortality rates are one in every 16 pregnancies Infant mortality rate is 70 per 1,000 live births.
Factors Contributing to high maternal and infant mortality Live in rural geographical areas Live in poverty No transportation Birthed multiple children Lack of access to healthcare facilities poor quality healthcare facilities Maternal education levels are low Practicing Muslim husbands not allowing the wives to leave home without their permission
