1 4-2 Discussion: Milestone Two Idea Sharing The research methods used in the study were concurrent triangulation research design. Concurrent triangulation research design is a method that uses two or more ways to affirm, cross- validate, or give credence to findings in a study. Cross-validation is the process in which the method that works for one population sample is checked by applying it to another sample from the same population to see if it is valid. The study used qualitative data from questionnaires, interviews, and a focus group. The data was self-reported, and no medical documentation was used in the study. Participants were asked questions about their daily life stresses, such as lack of transportation, financial issues, management of medication, and the stigma associated with their diagnosis. The participants were asked about their feelings/perceptions of personal and social stigmas and their medical care experiences. The study used qualitative data collected through questionnaires, interviews, or observation. The data was self-reported, and no medical documentation was used in the study. One significant finding I identified in the study was that the overall stigma score was high, with a mean of 97.7 ± 23.9, and the personalized stigma I considered high, with a mean of 42.2 ± 12.7. The perceived stress had a mean of 18.9 ± 8.4, which I thought would have been higher due to the magnitude of the diagnosis and disease. However, I believe this will need to be an ongoing study due to new developments in medication and with society having more knowledge and understanding of the disease. The statistical numbers will change significantly with reduced overall stigma and personal stigma scores.
