Reilly Noble HSS 396-03 20 Nov 2023 Hallmark Assessment Analysis of Client Information This analysis is a review of the case study for client number three. Client number three is a 70- year-old female who is new to exercise, but would like to increase her activity level to achieve her goals of weight loss, increased lower body strength, and increased upper body mobility. Based upon her answers to the Exercise Preparticipation Health Screening Questionnaire for Exercise Professionals (professionally guided form), she most certainly requires medical clearance 1 . The determining factor requiring the consultation with a physician is the recent chest pain she experiences during mild exertion (while walking her dog). This aligns with the question regarding symptoms that the Preparticipation Screening asks participants about directly. She also provided baseline information that indicated obesity based upon BMI calculations done with the provided height (5’4’’) and weight (200 lbs) , as well as use of Statin medication, which is a medicine utilized to lower an individual's cholesterol. It is also important to acknowledge she has no prior exercise participation, and she is struggling with lower body strength and upper body mobility. Due to this, upon receiving medical clearance, any exercise, as well as any exercise testing battery would have to be within her scope of accessibility. From the given information of her professionally-guided Exercise Preparticipation Health Screening, along with use of the Preparticipation Algorithm Screening we are led to acknowledge that the most appropriate course of action is to recommend a need for medical clearance due to her signs and symptoms shared 1 . Client number three is not an athlete, therefore she falls under the category of general population. As a result, she will be following the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines for any exercise testing. She also shared that she has decreased lower body strength, because of
Reilly Noble HSS 396-03 20 Nov 2023 this I will be testing her muscular strength with an age/strength level appropriate test option. Her lack of upper mobility that she expressed is also an important place for accommodation. Several tests from the Senior Fitness tests meet this client's needs for testing battery creation and a thorough baseline of data 2 . Testing Battery Day One: I. Anthropometric measures (Height, Weight, Blood Pressure/Heart Rate) II. Body composition (Skin Fold) III. Cardiorespiratory fitness (6 Min Walk) IV. Muscular strength (30 Second Chair Stand Test) Day Two: I. Flexibility (Back Scratch Test) II. Mobility (Goniometric Procedure) III. Muscular strength (Single Arm-Curl Test) Justification Anthropometric Testing My anthropometric testing choices included : Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, and Heart Rate. Each of these testing options require accessible equipment such as: Scale (Weight) , Stadiometer (Height), Sphygmomanometer (BP), Stethoscope (HR). These tests would be best done in a laboratory setting for accuracy of results and comfort ability of the client. No modifications for these tests are necessary, it is just important to let the client know to avoid caffeine prior to tests,
Reilly Noble HSS 396-03 20 Nov 2023 as well as any exertion that would affect the heart rate/blood pressure results to provide us with a sufficient baseline. By having this information accurately, we are allowing the client access to information to track any and all progress from her activity. Body Composition Anthropometric measures will provide us with the ability to classify the client on the BMI Index scale, however a skinfold measurement would give us a true Body Composition reading. I chose this test because the client has a goal of weight loss, and a 7 site skinfold test gives us various regions of the body to examine for fat loss in the future. This test requires a skinfold caliper and would be best performed in a lab setting. Muscular Strength The client shared a decreased level of strength in her lower body, which is why I chose the 30 second chair stand test. The test can be done in any setting with a wall, chair, and stopwatch. The test is also short in duration which is not too demanding for the client and not too dynamically demanding like other muscular fitness testing options. A precaution however is stability for the client so standing close enough to aid them with standing/returning to the seat if needed is important.. I also included the Arm Curl test for the client just to evaluate a baseline for upper body strength. This test requires a 5 lb dumbbell and a stopwatch set for 30 seconds 2 . Cardiorespiratory fitness The 6 minute walk test is a great testing procedure for aerobic capacity and endurance for the client because it is self paced. The test could be done in a field or lab setting, because a track, or
