Question 12: Pick one of the ecological systems and explain its relation to child care (e.g., the child care microsystem, the child care mesosystem, the child care exosystem, the child care macrosystem). The childcare microsystem is one of four different ecological systems that are said to influence a child’s development. The childcare microsystem comprises of a person’s current experiences in a certain environment (McCartney & Phillips, 2011). This would include an individual’s home, school, and neighborhood, as well as everyone that they come into direct contact with in these places (parents, siblings, teachers, neighbors, etc.). A child’s parents hold a huge role and responsibility in their child’s life. Compared to every individual that their child comes in contact with, one’s parents contribute the most to the upbringing and development of their children. From the time their child is born until they are adults, they meet all of their essential necessities for them, all including financial bills (food, water, housing, clothing, etc.), medical bills (all hospital/doctor’s visits), development (walking, running, talking, etc.), and education (teaching them how to read, count, identify shapes, letters, and colors, write, etc.). All in all, parents provide their children the proper care and support needed to succeed in life. Something that is also important for parents to teach their children would be manners. Obtaining manners starting at an early age is critical for children. No parent wants to raise a child that is not respectful to them nor their community, and by starting this early on, children will be taken seriously in the outside world. Another resource available to parents of children would be daycare. Daycare is typically used for children when their parents have to return back to their jobs and/or parents want their children to socialize with others. By having children socialize with their peers, they are able to learn and experience new things, which is a crucial aspect to their development. While at daycare, children are also surrounded by loving and supporting teachers and staff that have an overall goal of fulfilling the needs of the children. The growth of children and the kind of persons they become as adults depend greatly on childcare. Children's views and values are shaped by their microsystem, which is made up of the individuals with whom they are in contact with on a regular basis. These individuals can help enhance learning and provide children with experiences by creating the right environment that is best suited for them. At the end of the day, childcare goes beyond just meeting their fundamental demands, and through this ecological system, a child is able to acquire all of their developmental requirements needed to succeed at each life stage.
