Pepsi as a Behavior Modification: Baseline Phase
Pepsi as a Behavior Modification: Baseline Phase
Target Behavior
The behavior under observation is excessive Pepsi consumption due to stress. Stress is a state of
mental or emotional strain caused by adverse or very demanding circumstances such as but not
limited to, work, school, and home, specifically for this participant. The amount of Pepsi
consumed daily will tally throughout the day to record a (paper) graph for visual mapping of the
target behavior.
Experiment Narrative
The target behavior observed was in a structureless environment each day from the waking
moment of the first Pepsi until the last Pepsi of the day to see the number of sodas consumed in a
day. Each counted and measured (in fluid ounces) soda was recorded on paper throughout the
day. Transferring the data to a graph at the end of the observation period (figure 1). The
observation period of soda consumption counted and measured (in fluid ounces) daily for seven
days from September 12 to September 18, 2022.
Results
During the seven-day observation period, the participant consumed a total of thirty-one
containers of Pepsi (16.9 or 32 fluid ounces per container) equal to 5.5 gallons (rounded to the
nearest half number) of Pepsi. The target behavior is to reduce excess soda consumption to one
twelve fluid ounce can of soda per day.
Summary of Baseline
During the baseline phase, the workload increased by the day as passengers traveled the city
more than six months ago. The participant transports disabled individuals around town, meeting
on-time arrival performance without accelerating beyond the speed limit, during school zones,
