C813 Task 1 INTRODUCTION Healthcare statistics are integral in keeping track of operational changes in a healthcare organization. Appropriate research methods ensure that the data retrieved via query meet the reporting needs for key stakeholders. While gathering data, it is equally important that health information management (HIM) staff adheres to ethical guidelines. The collection of pertinent data via research plays a key role in process improvement in the clinical and operational environment. SCENARIO Felder Community Hospital is a 600-bed facility that serves a large metropolitan area. Senior management requires all departments to implement quarterly training for their staff members. As the director of the HIM department, you are responsible for quarterly training of the HIM supervisors on statistical data that affect patient outcomes. As part of the upcoming training, you plan to train your management staff on how to analyze morbidity statistics for the months of May, June, and July. The attached “Stat istics for Felder Community Hospital” provides the statistics for the hospital for this three -month period. You plan to explain how statistical data can be used to identify trends and possibly improve patient outcomes. You also plan to provide staff training on the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Code of Ethics and how its principles apply specifically to data integrity and the use of statistical patient data for organizational research. REQUIREMENTS
Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The similarity report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide. You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course. A. Discuss health information data measurement by doing the following: 1. Explain the differences between discrete and continuous data in health information research. Discuss differences between discrete and continuous data (check your textbook for more info). 2. Provide one example from healthcare of each of the following scales of measurement: nominal ordinal interval ratio Make sure that your examples are healthcare related. The textbook is a great resource for this! B. Analyze the Felder Community
Hospital’s statistics using the “Statistics for Felder Community Hospital,” “Formulas,” and “Felder Community Hospital LOS Regression Analysis” supporting documents by doing the following: 1. Calculate the average length of stay (ALOS) of discharged patients for the months of May, June, and July. 2. Calculate the patient death rate for the months of May, June, and July. 3. Calculate the average daily inpatient census for the months of May, June, and July. 4. Calculate the percentage of occupancy for the Be sure to show separate calculations for the month of May, June, and July Show your math calculations Show how you rounded off your numbers to the nearest tenth For B6 -You will have a table which lists the 5 statistics on one axis and the months on the other axis - make sure to label all statistical calculations and months B7- Pick 2 here to describe the relationship. Discuss why they are related, then how they are correlated (when one goes up, does the other also go up?) B8-Make sure to relate this to Felder. Make sure to discuss each statistic you calculated in B1-B5
