Topic 6 DQ 2 Describe the processes of internal and external environmental analysis. What would result if these strategic planning steps were omitted or completed incorrectly? Provide an example. Situation analysis is the process of determining the current state of the organization. It is essential to consider which factor is within the control or influence of the organization and how external forces affect the competitive position of the organization. Three interrelated processes help to analyze the current situation. Those are external environmental analysis, internal environmental analysis and the development of the organization’s mission, vision, values, and goals (Leger, 2023). The external analysis is the analysis of the organization's general environment and healthcare environment. Which is the process of identifying the market trends, forecasts, and issues happening outside the organization. The issues indicate the opportunities and threats and direct the organization to take steps to manage the issues. The analysis steps include generating the information, and researching the data about the subject. This analysis is vital because available resources, competencies, and capabilities influence success in the external environment. Through interviews, focus groups, and surveys the, market research can be done. The targets of this research must focus on senior leaders of competitor organizations, community leaders, primary employers, and those knowledgeable of the market situation. A parallel matrix can visualize competitively relevant threats with external opportunities (Leger, 2023). Internal analysis is the detailed review of internal processes, culture, structure, and technology to reveal strengths and weaknesses. For strategic planning, understanding the organizational culture and structure is essential. Because the success of any planned strategy requires a change related to organizational culture. The leaders must evaluate the competitive relevance of the identified issues. The weakness should be minimized with appropriate strategies, and the strengths should be optimized for maximum effect. A parallel matrix can visually present the strengths and weaknesses (Leger, 2023). If the strategic planning steps are omitted or completed incorrectly, team members may be overwhelmed with managing the day-to-day crises, leaving little time to implement strategic objectives. Additionally, vague objectives may lead to a lack of direction for team members to meet the established goals. For example, suppose the organization plans to open a new service unit for the Medical Psychiatric Unit to expand the business as a strategic planning step. In that case, the direction of the work level, goals, and objectives must be established and link to the overall plan for the organization. Vertical and horizontal communication must also be coordinated. This enables managers and team members to understand the present and plan for the future (Leger, 2023). References Leger, J. M. (2023).
