AT 2: Eco-Challenge: Implementing the Action Plan
Name: Mikaela Williams. Student ID: S00348353.
Introduction: Sustainability has many components and requires thinking about interrelated systems-cultural, social, economic and environmental systems, the similarities that flow between and within different ecosystems, and the actions needed to secure a concrete future. Plastic is at the heart of sustainability and is essential for socio-economic development, healthy ecosystems and human survival. It is important that we as humans take good care of it, reducing the global burden of disease and improving people's health, wellbeing and productivity.
Plastic is a variable driver of climate change and plays an important role in the link between the climate system, human societies and the environment. Without appropriate plastic governance, sectoral complementarity is likely to increase across different sectors that depend heavily on plastic, which could exacerbate range of plastic crises around the world. The physical world of plastic is closely linked to the socio-political world, and plastic soften a key element in managing risks such as scarcity, epidemics, inequality and political instability.

What did I achieve this week?
This week my fiancé and I’s house hold we introduced. When we go and do our weekly grocery shop,
we now head to the fresh fruits and vegetable section to get our fresh produce groceries. We might spend a bit more money but at least we are having out essential vitamins, minerals, fibre and other nutrients that are essential for us to maintain good health. My fiancé and I have now started creating our own vegetable patch in our backyard which helps us be able to maintain our veggie patch and be able to pick our own fresh vegetables from our own backyard. Having our own veggie garden we can now have consuming fresh veggies, healthy produce free of pesticides and instead of other harmful chemicals polluting our environment and waterways.
What challenges did I encounter? This week we faced a few challenges, we had some hot weather and then came the storms which we
couldn’t go outside and create our vegetable patch. We then had some birds come along and ruining
our holes we have dug and made room for us to place our vegetable seedlings in.
How did I overcome these challenges?
We waited until the weather got cooler on Monday night, I waited for my fiancé for my fiancé to get home from work Monday night and we set up our area where we want our vegetable patch is and then we started digging and working out which vegetables we would like to have where after deciding and digging we then made a quick stop to Bunnings to get some posts and vegetable seedlings and some garden covers to keep the birds away from picking our seeds.
How would I rate my success this week? This week I would say we had great successful week in being able to go the grocery store and buying fresh fruit and vegetables instead of the plastic frozen vegetables. We also having great success in building and constructing our own vegetable garden. We will continue on buying fresh fruit and vegetables from the grocery store until we are able to pick our own vegetables and start using them in our lunches and dinners.
